The festival ignites the flame of excitement and happiness in our hearts and brings lots of positivity into our lives.  Amidst the celebrations, it is not wise to ignore the harmful consequences that might be caused due to fireworks. Along with the hands and fingers, the eyes also become vulnerable to damage. Hence, we must take precautionary measures to keep our eyes safe and protected during the festivities.

5 eye-care tips to follow during Diwali

Celebrations become all the more meaningful when we follow safety measures and protect our eyesight from becoming prone to injury.  Read on to learn 5 eye care tips for a happier and brighter Diwali celebration.

1. Wear goggles or glasses for protectionWhile lighting diyas or bursting firecrackers, there are chances that sparks of fire can reach the eyes. Also, the heat produced by the fireworks may affect the eyesight. So, protect the eyes from such unwanted circumstances by wearing glasses or goggles and make your Diwali brighter than the brightest of the lights.

2. Maintain distance from the crackersWhen bursting crackers, one must be careful and not go too close to the firecrackers. The ‘anaars’ may explode, the ‘rockets may backfire, and loose, synthetic clothes may lead to unwanted situations amidst the festivals. So, it is wise to stay at a safe distance when bursting crackers. Also, burning a number of firecrackers together may be dangerous, so avoid it.

3. Supervise the childrenThe little ones are usually extremely excited when they hear about lights and firecrackers. Out of excitement and happiness, they become reckless. Also, they do not understand the dangers associated with fireworks. Hence, it is extremely vital that adults guide the children when they are bursting crackers and also lighting the candles and diyas. Do not allow them to go too close to the light sources, and educate them beforehand regarding the dangers of different types of fireworks.

4. Keep the hands free from germsWhile making rangoli or bursting crackers, hands are primarily prone to becoming infected by germs. And, generally, we do not remember to wash our hands and then rub our eyes with them, which affects our eyesight. So, wash and disinfect the hands thoroughly to restrict the entry of harmful chemicals into the eyes and keep the eyesight safe from any unwanted injuries.

5. In emergencies, visit a care specialist

There may be numerous incidents when smoke or particles from the firecrackers may enter the eyes. Also, people rub their eyes with infected hands making their eyesight red, itchy,or blurred. There may arise other incidents where a firecracker may have busted causing considerable harm to the eyesight.  In such emergencies, seek professional help. Rush to the nearest eye care center to seek medical help and save your eyesight from further damage.

Thus, this Diwali, taking care of eye health must be a priority. Wear glasses for protection, burst crackers from a safer distance, and clean your hands thoroughly after bursting any fireworks. Enjoy a safer Diwali and allow those eyes to shine like never before.
